Social Selling

Personal Shopper Versus Business Builder

Personal Shopper Versus Business Builder: Now What?

When you join a company, you usually have a goal in mind: personal shopper versus business builder. Based on what route you want to take determines your first steps. You signed up, paid the kit fee, and now you have a login and password and the world at your finger tips? And maybe even a stress bubble in your stomach. Even when I join a business for the kit (kit-nabber) or for the discount (personal shopper) it always makes me feel a little nervous about what I just got into. Buyers-remorse maybe? Responsibility to be great and make money? Not sure! Maybe just the excitement of learning something new? Something.

Personal Shopper

Give me a discount and take my money!

So you’ve joined as a personal shopper. You WANT that discount! A distributor offered you the smallest kit option because you made your intentions clear: I do NOT want to sell! I just want to purchase the product at a discount without pressure of anything else. Hostess rewards? No, thank you! Monthly minimums? Don’t even go there! Incentives and trip-earning? Did we not talk about this? I don’t want to think about that at all. Make you intentions clear to your upline (the person that signed you up; may also be known as mentor, sponsor or leader) ahead of time. How many times do you want them to contact you a month to check-in? What are your goals? How much training do you want? (For example: I want to know how to input my order, pay for my order, receive my order and nothing else!) Communicating with your upline from the get-go will allow for them to be the best support system they can be without pressure or being super annoying and calling you all the time. (Yes, many of us have been there! Set expectations and avoid annoyance!) And if your intentions or goals ever change (you see that yearly sales trip and you begin to think “I want to go on that baby for FREE!!!”) let your upline know right away and get to strategizing HOW you can join in on that trip! And check out this sassy little article on my Sassy Direct Business Listing about making the switch: How to Make the Switch.

Incentive Trips

This one of my WHYs for being in Direct Sales. The TRIPS!

On the other side of the spectrum, you have joined a business and you want to make money! #momoney! I want to pay the bills! I want to go on family vacations! I want to earn trips! I want to build a team and share this excitement with everyone in sight! I want to build my savings account! And buy a new car! Heck, I want to EARN a new car with the company I have joined! (Not all companies offer a car allowance, but mine does!! www.senegence.com/gabandglitter) When you wrap your head around starting a business to GROW and WORK that business, the sky is the limit! Not to be cheesy, but there really is NO limit to how much success you can acquire. I have seen it happen time and time again and people DO have great success with multi-level marketing companies if they work their business. I feel like I have had a great deal of success with the three I have been involved in over the past 10 years.

What are the first steps to this business-building goal you have in mind?

  1. Talk to your upline. Schedule an appointment with them. (Distance does not mean that you cannot sit face to face with them if you are not local. Download the ZOOM app and ta-da!) Your upline should be able to guild you through the back office of the company you have chosen. They should be able to show you how to host your own kick-off party (this will vary based on different companies). And they should be able to goal-set with you based on your intentions. When you chose a mentor, do so in mind with how much support you desire and how much support they are available to give you. If they are not a business-builder themselves, they may be available less often than you may want and you want to be aware of that before joining their team. Most companies do have amazing training and getting-started resources, so sometimes an upline is not even needed to get started, but I prefer having someone above me that will help guide and strategize with me. I also need a sounding board for my questions, thoughts, and plans.
  2. Map out how you want to meet the masses. What social media instruments do you want to use? Which do you want to prioritize and give most of your time to? Where do you want to funnel your viewers to? (More on that soon.) I, personally, have chosen my Facebook VIP group: GabandGlitterLips to be my main source of information and engagement. Therefore, all of my Facebook business posts, personal posts, Pinterest Pins and my blog posts lead my viewers to join my VIP group because this is where I spend the most time getting to know my community. I have a variety of social media accounts, but I don’t have to be a expert in them all. (Who has time for that madness?) Instead, I choose where my energy is spent and will work toward better understanding and implementing the others as time allows. Ain’t nobody got time for all these: Instagram, Marco Polo, Pinterest, YouTube, blogging, and so much more! So decide where your energy will be placed and get exercising those skills!
  3. Book, Book, Book!! Schedule, Schedule, Schedule! When I first joined my newest company 6 months ago, I knew it order to grow, I had to use my current warm market. This was a challenge as many of my warm market contacts were based on my other company and due to cross-promotion rules, I could not market to these people. Basically, I had to start fresh! Therefore, I went to my close friends and family first and booked my kick-off party. I had them invite their friends and family so I immediately grew my audience. I shared the product with Facebook LIVE and then filtered all these people from my kick-off event into my brand new VIP group. Then I asked everyone to book their own party. Bait: free and discounted product! And now that I introduced them to this amazing “Lip stuff” they all wanted to book, right? Well, not all, but the fortune is in the follow-up! Follow-up with those interested. Schedule and execute the party ASAP. And continue to check-in with those that were interested, but not willing to settle on a date yet. My first month with my new company was consumed with 4-5 LIVE Demos a week (parties for my company), all online, and this aided in building my VIP community.
  4. HAVE FUN! Oh, I know you hear this all the time. It’s YOUR business and if you are NOT having FUN, then why do it? But, come on…it’s ALWAYS more fun when you are making money, building new contacts, and sharing your product with anyone and everyone that will listen. Even in those down months (I am currently in my second full month of slower business than what I am used to with my new company), make sure to still enjoy the process. Take time to enjoy meeting new people, spending time in your VIP group, and sharing your product. People can sense when you truly enjoy your journey and when it becomes more of a stress factor.

Looking for a company to join? May I strongly suggest SeneGence International? LipSense is just a small portion of their amazing products!
